It has been a while since BlackBerry last released smartphone, a Pearl family member. However, the silence has been broken by some leaked snapshots and even a video clip demonstrating the unrevealed BlackBerry Pearl 9100. The weird thing about it is that the new Pearl is pearl-less.
We have found out that the idea of dropping the trackball over a touch sensitive optical trackpad quite logical since the trackballs were often a reason for people to take their BlackBerry for repairing.
The Pearl lineup was announced to change the way how people looked at BlackBerry handsets. Those handsets were not only business-oriented, but they can offer a wider range of multimedia functionalities. Fortunately, the trend spread and overtook all the latest BlackBerry smartphones, so the Pearls had lost their edge.
The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 (nicknamed as “Stratus” or “Stiker”) will also feature a SureType keyboard (read: half-QWERTY) like its predecessors, which is not as comfy as the full QWERTY keyboards. However, it allows the smartphones itself to remain pocketable enough. Moreover, it is expected to feature 3G and Wi-Fi support and run the latest version of the BlackBerry OS (v5.0). The close-ups reveal a microUSB port, a standard 3.5mm audio jack and a camera with LED flash.
Unfortunately, DoubleDT.Com has not got any clue when the stuff will be officially revealed, when it will be released to the market and at what price.
