Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II

The recently announced Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, obviously the successor to the hugely successful Galaxy S, has now been given a price. Admittedly, the price will not be the final retail price when the device goes on sale on March 31st, which is the date being touted by Play.com.

Well, hopefully not, that is, as the prices being banded around range between the ambitious and the altogether insane, with the aforementioned Play.com listing it at £599.99, which is actually a come down from yesterday’s pricing, which was just shy of £650. Crazy!!

Expansys have been less convinced by the reductions today, and have retained a list price of £630 for the unlocked handset.

Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that these fluctuating price points eventually meet at a happy equilibrium much like the Samsung Galaxy Tab price kept dropping, probably a couple of hundreds less than these ludicrous figures. I mean, come on, it’s not as if there’s no competition for a high end Android smartphone sporting a 4.3″ display and an HD video camera. It just depends how much you’re willing to pay for all that dual-core, Android Gingerbread goodness, I suppose.

Are you looking at upgrading your mobile phone and the Android-based Samsung Galaxy S II pre-order looks ideal? If so, will you buying it sim-free at these prices? Or do you still prefer to be on a monthly contract and get a subsidized handset from your mobile network?
