Facebook Lite

Recently, Hisdustantimes.com has reported that the minimalist version of online social-networking site has arrived. Facebook Lite (lite.facebook.com) is a slimmed-down version of the old site, for people with slow-speed Internet. The trimmed look offers fewer services and is easier on the eyes.

The slick-and-speedy Lite is possibly a blessing for users at Internet cafés, where pages could take days to upload. According to Brandee Barker, Facebook’s director of communications, Facebook Lite is designed to introduce people with low bandwidth.

There are no applications or special boxes. However, you cannot chat with all your listed-friends. Instead, there is more white space, the column on the right has less junk, and while there are still ‘People You May Know’, elements like ‘Events’, ‘Highlights’, and other pesky thumbnails have been left out.

Prashant Utthapa, a 33-year-old TV producer in Delhi, likes this brand new look. He says he switched over to it on Friday and found it “cleaner and easier to load on his smartphone”.

Lite could help attract new users to join this largest social-networking site. Facebook said that they have found that people who are new to Facebook tend to be most interested in a simpler experience, and focus on establishing their network of friends by writing on their walls, sending messages, and looking at pictures.
