Nokia Corp. has unveiled new services and cell phones today, which will make Nokia’s customers can able to download music and play games, as the world’s largest mobile phone maker, Nokia Corp. has issued a challenge to Apple Inc.’s higher-end iPhone, as well as iTunes and the iPod.

The movement that Nokia has taken can give Nokia a strong position in emerging markets, which is the latest recognition high-end markets includes handsets with photo, music and video capabilities and quick access to the internet. The newest Nokia’s mobile phones can store up to 6,000 songs.

According to Nokia, the company will focus on its new Web services in a site known as “Ovi” – Finnish for “door” – that will include an online music store “with million of tracks from major labels.”

Nokia’s new service aims is to provide good services to its customers, so that they can able to transfer music from their PCs to compatible Nokia devices and play and download N-Gage games on “tens of millions” of existing Nokia devices.

According to Mark McKechnie, American Technology Research analyst, these Nokia’s efforts will enable the company to offer “experiences” rather than just “devices”, which we believe will become more important as mobile services move from voice-centric to internet-centric.

According to the CEO of Olli - Pekka Kallasvuo, the industry is converging towards Internet-driven experiences; moreover, the man said that Ovi represents Nokia’s vision in combining the internet and mobility.

Nowadays, Nokia’s new top-range models, some including 5MP cameras, Carl Zeiss optics, and memory of up to 8 gigabytes, range from US$ 300 to US$ 750.

Nokia is Expanding its Business

Nokia has acquired Loudeye Corp., a leading provider of digital media distribution services, for US$ 60 million last year to expand its digital music offerings. Now, Nokia has completed deals with the four major music labels – Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group Inc., EMI Group PLC and Sony BMG Music Entertainment, a joint venture of Sony Corp. and Bertelsmann AG. The “Nokia Music Store” will open this autumn in Europe and later in Asia and offer “locally relevant music” as well as hits.

Apple’s iTunes store is currently still the leader of online music retailer, and Apple’s iPod is the most popular digital media player. In June, Apple has entered Nokia’s territory in releasing its’ iPhone, which combines a cell phone, media player and wireless Internet device.

Nokia’s announcement is emphasized on the new sleek design and slim size items – one cell phone is less than 10 mm thick – another apparent attempt to counterbalance Apple and its renown for design.

Together, Nokia and Microsoft Corp. also has announced that access to some of the software maker’s more popular Web service, such as Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger, would come built-in to some Nokia phone models.

Nokia is Dominating the Mobile Phone Market

Nokia has been dominating the market since it has offered some successful smart phones, Nokia is losing out to rivals that produced popular camera features and clamshell models several years ago.

The second quarter of this year, Nokia has sold 100 million mobile devices; this result is more than its three main rivals combined are. Nokia has taken 37 percents (up from 34 percent a year earlier) of the global market share, this result is according to Gartner Inc.’s research group.

Nokia, based in Espoo near the Finnish capital, Helsinki, has sales offices around 130 countries and employs 110,000 people worldwide.
