Palm Eos

Couple of days ago, rumors of a new smaller Palm handset (mini Palm Pre phone) appeared. Palm is yet to launch its much-awaited Pre phone but there are already reports of another handset in the works running the same operating system that Palm Pre is based on.

Well, seemingly designed as a successor of the Palm Centro, the rumored next WebOS handset by Palm has finally received a face and a name - enter the Palm Eos. Thanks to Engadget.com, DoubleDT.Com can put the picture here and make some reviews about this Palm’s Tiny WebOS phone.

The leaked rendering of the handset shows it taking a similar form factor to the classic Centro and Treo design. Palm Eos is said to be a quad band GSM/HSDPA handset, so you guys will have your comeuppance, it seems. Moreover, it will supposedly be only 10.6mm thin, measuring about 2.1 by 4.3-inches, weigh 100 grams (3.52 ounces), and will sport a 2.63-inch resolution 320×400 capacitive display, 4GB of storage, and a GPS receiver, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) and a microUSB port. Curiously absent at this time is any mention of Wi-Fi, though without any official word everything about this stuff is still very much up in the air.

The Palm Eos should be announced for AT&T in the US at a price of $349, excluding a rebate. Moreover, without the slide-out keyboard of the Palm Pre, the Palm Eos looks similar to the BlackBerry Bold. The pre-rebate pricing on the Palm Eos seems high for now but if Palm can work with the telecom carrier to bring that down for consumers, it may have a worthy successor to its inexpensive and successful Centro smartphone. Since we did not make ourselves clear up until now, the Palm Eos is still a rumor phone, though all the information seems rock solid.
