Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani

Over the past few years, it has become more of a common trend for mobile-phone makers to team up with renowned fashion designers. We believe that it must be hard for the fashion conscious to choose a mobile-phone that matches their style. This time around, we have the unlikely pairing of South Korean mobile-phone maker Samsung and Giorgio Armani in their efforts to create the B7620, which is a high-end smartphone that hopes to wow the fashion aficionados out there.

Designer Giorgio Armani, who made a personal appearance during the launch of the B7620, told those in attendance that the touch-screen phone would coordinate “unmatchable with Giorgio Armani suits” and it would “perfect for nowadays’ managers”. Well, it seems that the stuff is reserved only for the trendiest executives out there who actually dawn Giorgio Armani suits on a regular basis. Testament to this fact is the B7620’s hefty price tag that does not seem to concern itself with the current global recession. Here goes, our review of the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani as we briefly took it out for a spin.

You can easily notice that the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani model name is really close relative to the already available Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO. However, there are some hardware differences. The new bronzed B7620 Armani phone can tilt its screen and has a built-in internal memory of 8GB, but it comes with a slightly larger footprint and does not have the 3.5mm audio jack of the OmniaPRO.

Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani’s Physical Aspect

The Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani does not fall in the category of compact smartphones. However, it is certainly not the slimmest smartphone around, but actually it is quite normally sized for its market segment and the current trends. It is still some 10g lighter than the HTC Touch Pro2, but is not any more compact that the HTC business flagship.

Design and construction

One of the talking points of the B7620 is its powerful 800Mhz processor that also happens to have a dedicated graphics accelerator. This guarantees the optimal performance of its modified Windows Mobile OS (version 6.5) that will run in conjunctions with the B7620 TouchWiz 2.0 user interface.

We were quite surprised to see a smartphone with a business-centric mindset come paired with a high-street fashion brand such as Armani. We somehow expected that all fashionable smartphones should be as slim as the girls on the catwalks. Well, obviously Samsung and Giorgio Armani are breaking the stereotype here and are letting the fat girl B7620 do the modeling.

The QWERTY keyboard revealed by using a “unique two-step 30-degree tilt hinge”. We are quite impressive with its golden base and black island-type keys that look quite MacBook inspired. The keyboard ergonomics are commendable, typing on it is quite a nice experience.

On the right side of the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani there is the standard microUSB port hidden under a protective cap. The HOLD key used for locking and unlocking the touchscreen and the camera shutter key are also here. Meanwhile, on the left side of the phone, you can find the microSD card slot and the volume rocker.

The battery cover surface is really nice to touch with a textured pattern that seems totally fingerprint resistant.

Last words

In our opinion, the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani is quite a commendable smartphone. Although largely on the heavy side, the mobile’s ergonomics and performance is more than able to make up for it. Another praiseworthy aspect is Samsung’s creativity and excellent work in the customization of the Windows Mobile OS. The phone will go on sale for around €700 (or around $1,035).
