Samsung’s Newest Chips

What are the best CPU speeds in mobile devices nowadays? About 600 to 700 MHz, right? Recently, Samsung just announced the S5PC110 and S5PV210 based on ARM Cortex A8, both clock at impressive 1GHz. From the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum in Seoul, DoubleDT.Com’s crews know that first samples will crawl out no sooner than the end of this year. Therefore, we probably will not able to buy any of two in a smartphone this year.

The Samsung S5PC110 and S5PV210 chips are aimed for mobile devices-the former for multimedia-centric smartphones and the latter for netbook-type devices or pocket computer devices. Both are optimized to ensure long battery life for mobile devices, using a 45-nanometer (nm) low power architectures and low power fabrication process, equipped with 1GHz clock speed, 32KB data, 32KB instruction and 512KB L2 caches.

These two chips, which are the S5PC110 and S5PV210, have built-in 3D graphics engine and support 1080p full HD codec engine and full HD video playback, recording at 30 fps, very fast UI response (touchscreen owners will love it). The final nice features of the new chipset include a wide variety of interfaces and peripherals, which are including HDMI 1.3and USB 2.0 host interface.

That kind of processing power will most certainly be coupled with the 5MP image sensor to create the first full HD video recording mobile phone. Considering that the camera module in question also offers xenon flash, mechanical shutter and of course auto focus that should make a decent shooter to say the least.

The camera module will enter mass production from January next year, while the first samples of the two chips will be available in December. Recently, we still do not have any information yet about the price of these two chips. Perhaps we should be expecting something big thrown our way at the next Mobile World Congress in February.
